PTC Network has chosen Amagi’s cloud playout platform, CLOUDPORT, to transition its current operations, and launch eight new channels

NEW YORK (PRWEB) April 17, 2018

Amagi, a global leader in cloud-based technology for TV and OTT broadcasters, today announced that PTC Network, the leading Punjabi TV content provider has selected Amagi cloud platform to centralize all its operations. As part of the engagement, PTC Network will transition its existing seven channels to the Amagi platform, and additionally launch eight new feeds as part of its global expansion.

Over the last decade, PTC Network has grown significantly reaching audiences in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and parts of Europe, apart from India. “Till now, we were using traditional broadcast models to run our playout and delivery operations. These are not only CAPEX-intensive, but they also limit our ability to scale our global operations and manage it centrally,” said Rabindra Narayan, Managing Director and President, PTC Network.

Using Amagi CLOUDPORT, PTC Network can move its content assets to the cloud, store and manage them centrally. Through a single web UI, PTC Network can configure multiple feeds, define playlists, create schedules, add dynamic graphics, deliver and monitor all its feeds without having a large physical infrastructure.

“This transition will be a game-changer for us as we can now launch new channels on the cloud instantly, and deliver it to any region, any platform, any device in the world. We are absolutely excited to partner with Amagi as we continue on our global expansion,” added Rabindra Narayan.

Amagi will continue to deliver PTC Network channels to leading operators and teleports including Dish TV, Sling, and SKY Broadcasting among others, across DTH and cable platforms.

“PTC Network’s aspirations are truly global. Their decision to embrace cloud technologies is in line with the global trend, and we are very delighted at the opportunity to lead this transition for them,” said Deepakjit Singh, CEO, Amagi. “They can now reach new audiences with shorter lead time, and can launch linear channels on both traditional TV and OTT without investing in additional infrastructure.”

Founded in 2008, Amagi formally debuted in the US in 2017. Amagi is the leader in cloud-managed broadcast services and targeted advertising for TV and OTT, enabling TV networks to launch, operate, and monetize channels anywhere in the world. Amagi has deployments in more than 40 countries and delivers more than 100 feeds to audiences worldwide. In addition to PTC Network, Amagi clients include industry heavyweights such as Zee TV, B4U, Discovery Communications’ DSPORT, Viacom18, Turner Broadcasting, Viceland and more.

This is the second episode of dunnhumby’s online reality series exploring how food retailers are using data and innovation to reshape their businesses and the customer experience

CHICAGO (PRWEB) April 17, 2018

dunnhumby, the leading customer data science company, today premiered the second episode of “The Prophets of Aisle Six” - an online reality show about innovation in the food retail industry. In the latest episode, Jose Gomes, Managing Director of North America for dunnhumby, travels to the downtown Cleveland store of Heinen’s Fine Foods, located in the historic Cleveland Trust Building, to find out how Tom and Jeff Heinen, co-owners and brothers, are keeping their grandfather’s mission of delivering excellence in customer service and in food quality to a millennial generation that values experience. Heinen’s is a family-owned grocery chain with 23 stores in Northeast Ohio and the greater Chicago area that was established nearly 90 years ago. The episode can be viewed at: https://goo.gl/T1f9An

“Competition has really heated up on all sides whether it be delivery, click and collect, meal kits, discount grocery stores, or online shopping which in turn has propelled us to create a new grocery shopping experience,” said Tom Heinen. “We knew that our brick and mortar business won’t survive without us upping our game and that’s exactly what we have done.”

Heinen’s has turned to customer data science to help create the shopping experiences customers want with the products they value to satisfy their needs, and earn long-term loyalty. “Having big data available to us to quickly make decisions is a huge competitive advantage,” said Heinen. “Being a small retailer when you deal with data is actually an advantage. Big companies are like cruise ships, but a little company like Heinen’s is like a speed boat.”

Gomes learned that Heinen’s is leveraging its data and turning it into real insights about what its customers want and expect, which in turn is instructing the family-owned grocery chain on how best to engage with its customers – whether they are located in the suburbs or part of the downtown neighborhood of the Cleveland Trust Building.

“In the age of Amazon, it pays to think big if you are small,” said Gomes. “Heinen’s has done just that in transforming a historic landmark into a fantastic experience for their customers to come, shop, savor the food, and experience the store with one another.”

Once aired, each episode is available on demand at https://www.dunnhumby.com/resources/prophets.

An investor in iZettle and Wonga just raised $235 million to fund the next fintech unicorns

An investor in iZettle and Wonga just raised $235 million to fund the next fintech unicorns· *UK venture capital investor Dawn Capital has raised $235 million (£165 million) for its third fund.*
· *The early-stage investor has managed to return 3.3 times its first fund to its investors thanks to a strategy of backing under-the-radar fintech and subscription software firms.*
· *It has backed Wonga, iZettle, and cybersecurity firm Mimecast which went public in 2015.*
· *Dawn also raised money from the European Investment Fund, an important source of VC funding, which industry insiders thought might dry up after Brexit.*

--------------------An early-stage venture capital firm, which backed Wonga and payments startup iZettle, has raised $235 million (£165 million) for its third fund.

Dawn Capital invests primarily in financial and enterprise startups. Its portfolio includes cybersecurity firm Mimecast, which went public in 2015 and has a current valuation of $2.16 billion (£1.5 billion), and Swedish graph database firm Neo4j, which helped journalists examine the Panama Papers.

Haakon Overli, a general partner at Dawn, said the fund was oversubscribed thanks to investor interest in Europe. Dawn invests about half its money into UK startups, and the remainder across continental Europe.

He said Dawn's first fund had so far returned 3.3 times the amount of money originally invested, a strong return for a European fund. He estimated a similar return for its second fund. That's thanks to strong performers such as Mimecast, iZettle, and data governance firm Collibra.

"[Investors] were feeling the opportunities in Europe are greater than ever, the rounds are getting a little bit bigger, and our performance in the past supported deploying a bit more capital," he said.

Investors also liked Dawn's willingness to back what some might see as unsexy firms which generate good returns, like Mimecast.

"Things that appear niche are where we have done well," Overli said. "They are things where the subject matter may not be the most exciting, but the output is very valuable."

The firm will continue its focus on software-as-a-subscription businesses for the third fund.

*A big source of European venture funding is back in business after Brexit*

Almost a third of Dawn's new funding comes from the European Investment Fund (EIF).

This is a big deal given that venture capital investors worried last summer that the fund had pulled out of the UK following Brexit.

The EIF is what's known as an "anchor" investor, which means it will commit fairly early to a new venture capital fund. This encourages other, smaller investors to come on board and makes it easier to close the fund.

The EIF has handed around £2 billion to UK investors to date, and its commitment to Dawn suggests it's again willing to invest in UK funds that put money into European startups. The EIF is funded by the European Investment Bank, whose shareholders are the EU's 28 member states, including the UK.

"After Brexit, [the EIF] needed time to figure what the new world looked like," Overli said. "They said 'We want to back funds with a European strategy that do well, and you're one of them."

Resy CEO Ben Leventhal Announces New Product Features & Significant Platform Updates at the Brand’s First Annual Product Summit in New York City

NEW YORK, April 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, hospitality technology leader Resy revealed a disruptive lineup of first-of-its-kind features and significant product updates to further empower restaurants to deliver superior experiences and elevated customer service, now on a global scale. The brand new features and product enhancements were announced at Resy’s first annual Product Summit in New York, hosted by CEO, Ben Leventhal and CTO, Mike Montero.

“The inspiration for Resy came to life over a delicious meal on 86th Street with my longtime friends and current business partners, Mike Montero and Gary Vaynerchuk,” shared Leventhal during today’s Product Summit. “The three of us discussed what it could look like if restaurants had true partners in technology, and we set out to find the right balance that would make technology work for the business of hospitality. Four years later, Resy works with 10,000 network restaurants in 160 global cities, managing one million reservations per week for 2.7 million users. We’re building the future of hospitality technology together with our restaurant partners, and the brand new tools and features we’re revealing today are the tip of the iceberg.”

*Empowering Restaurateurs with Smarter, Insights-Driven Technology*

Making its long-awaited debut today is *ResyFly*, a brand new, ground-breaking inventory optimization program designed to help restaurants minimize the gaps between reservations. ResyFLY represents a significant advancement for the hospitality technology industry, offering a combination of slots-based and inputs-based systems for the first time. Restaurants will now have the flexibility to schedule different floor plans, reservation grids, and hours of operation for special days or time periods. The tool will go live on May 15, 2018.

“Restaurants have historically been shackled to imperfect inventory management systems like ‘slots,’ where restaurateurs have complete control over tables, and ‘flex mode,’ taking control out of the equation,” explains Montero. “But there’s no reason these should be the only options. We set out to solve that problem by consulting our restaurant partners and designing a tool that not only speaks to how restaurants themselves have evolved, but is versatile enough to increase the ease at which they operate their unique businesses. ResyFLY is our solution, and one that we’re very proud of. Resy is for restaurants, by restaurants, and we’re confident ResyFLY lives up to that commitment.”

Furthering its commitment to supplying restaurants with smart technology, Resy recently announced its integration with *Upserve*. Breadcrumb POS by Upserve will now supply Resy restaurant partners with granular insights into guest preferences — from favorite dishes and dining companions to frequency of booking — to make everyone feel like a regular. Joint Upserve and Resy partners can prepare for an upcoming shift with a summary of predicted covers, confirmed reservations, and guest profiles including favorite menu items and historical spend. And, when the waiter drops a check, Breadcrumb POS will send update table status in Resy, helping busy hosts stay on top of everything that’s happening in the restaurant.

*Elevating Customer Experiences at Restaurants to a New Level *

Empowering restaurants to optimize and enhance the dining journey for customers, *Resy Surveys* is launching today as the first-ever reservation-integrated dynamic survey product. The tool allows restaurants to completely customize private post-meal surveys to gain insight into all aspects of their operation — from steps of service, to customer behavior, to seating and meal preferences. Every survey is tied to a reservation, supplying the restaurant with meaningful, useful and actionable insights from the customer.

Resy is also launching a first-of-its kind loyalty program called *Resy Select*, designed to build deeper, lasting relationships between the best customers and the best restaurants. Resy Select members will receive exclusive booking windows for landing hard-to-get reservations, notify waitlist priority, early access to event tickets, and other insider experiences (e.g. meet the chef and tour the kitchen). The loyalty program will launch in beta by invitation-only at the end of April and expand broadly over time.

*Superior Hospitality Technology Introduced to Restaurants Globally *

For the first time, international restaurant partners and users in Barcelona, Dublin, London, Madrid, Montreal, Paris and Sydney will be able to manage and book reservations on Resy, with Amsterdam, Toronto and Vancouver soon to come. Resy’s international expansion will offer diners the same elevated service, exceptional food and personal touch that Resy restaurants are empowered to provide in the U.S.

Resy’s commitment to connectivity and transparency is further underlined by today’s launch of *Resy Global Service (RGS)*, the platform’s network of connected technology partners around the world. Partners connect to RGS, and Resy distributes inventory to demand-side partners such as Airbnb. SINGAPORE, April 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ASLAN Pharmaceuticals (ASLAN) (6497.TT), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company targeting cancers that are both highly prevalent in Asia and orphan indications in the United States and Europe, today announced the presentation of new data from a study of the use of varlitinib in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) 2018 Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois.*Details of the poster are as below:*

*Session: *   Experimental and Molecular Therapeutics
*Poster #:*   3992 / 26
*Section: *   41
*Title: *       Varlitinib demonstrates tumor regression and vessel normalization in ErbB-dependent and mutated beta-catenin hepatocellular carcinoma patient-derived xenograft model

The pre-clinical study was conducted in collaboration with the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) and was led by Professor The Huynh Hung, Principal Investigator at NCCS’ Laboratory of Molecular Endocrinology. The study was designed to demonstrate the efficacy of varlitinib in HCC patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models and to study the molecular mechanisms of varlitinib-mediated tumor suppression and its anti-angiogenic potential. In addition, the study sought to identify gene signatures associated with efficacy of varlitinib by transcriptome and gene expression analyses.

*About varlitinib (ASLAN001)
*Varlitinib (ASLAN001) is a highly potent, oral, reversible, small molecule pan-HER inhibitor that targets the human epidermal growth factor receptors HER1, HER2 and HER4. These receptors can be mutated or overexpressed in many tumors, which can cause excessive proliferative activity and uncontrolled growth. Therefore, by inhibiting the activation of the HER receptors, varlitinib could inhibit proliferation and control tumor growth. Varlitinib is currently being studied in gastric, biliary tract, breast and colorectal cancers.  Varlitinib has been granted orphan drug designation in the United States for gastric cancer and cholangiocarcinoma, a sub-type of biliary tract cancer, and was awarded orphan drug designation for the treatment of biliary tract cancer by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in South Korea.

*About ASLAN Pharmaceuticals*

SMARTER COOKING BROUGHT TO THE SMART HOME BY ELECTROLUX AND VARIGUARD USING RESEARCH FRONTIERS SPD-SMART LIGHT-CONTROL TECHNOLOGY

This week at 2018 EuroCucina in Milan, Italy, Electrolux premiers the SenseOven 2.0 concept oven using SPD-SmartGlass.

Milan, Italy, April 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cooking just got smarter and easier thanks to Electrolux and variable tint SPD-SmartGlass supplied by Research Frontiers’ VariGuard division. Electrolux, a global leader in appliances is premiering its "SenseOven 2.0" concept this week at 2018 EuroCucina, Europe’s largest kitchen trade show being held in Milan. The SenseOven 2.0 embeds VariGuard’s SPD-SmartGlass interactive intelligence into the appliance – an electronically dimmable glass which uses Research Frontiers’ patented SPD-Smart light-control film technology.

Electrolux is showing how SPD-SmartGlass makes cooking more interactive, more precise and easier.  It also has aesthetic benefits and a sleek modern design.

When the cook is at the oven, the SPD-SmartGlass can be switched to extremely transparent, offering an excellent view of the food and reducing the need to open the door. At all other times, the glass can be extremely dark – blocking over 99.5% of light – completely concealing the oven’s interior and delivering a sleek black appearance as an interior design element.

The ability of the SPD-SmartGlass to switch different zones from clear to dark provides an opportunity for an industry-first oven feature. Recipes specify which oven rack to use, and the rack used can change during cooking. The zone of the SmartGlass in front of the rack to be used can switch from dark to clear – but the other zones can remain dark. If the rack is to be changed during cooking, the zone in front of the new rack can switch clear and the others switch dark. These visual cues to the chef can be provided automatically – the SmartGlass can receive data from the oven's timer, and when appropriate the cue can visually alert the cook on actions to take. In another example of visual cues that can be added, the SmartGlass could communicate with the oven’s temperature monitor and can “flash” – switching repeatedly from clear to black, when the pre-heat temperature has been reached. The SPD-SmartGlass could also communicate interactively with smart device cooking apps for added precision and functionality.

Electrolux has embedded new intelligence into the SenseOven 2.0 concept by its integration of VariGuard’s SPD- SmartGlass. The appearance of the SenseOven 2.0 exterior is electronically adjustable – instantly switching between optically transparent and a sleek solid black. At 2018 EuroCucina, visitors will experience the SPD-SmartGlass changing states between transparent and black via a demonstration program. In kitchens, VariGuard SmartGlass can be controlled manually by the user, via apps on their smart devices, or automatically with the use of motion or proximity sensors. If desired, the system’s intelligence also allows for integration and communication with other oven electronics (for example timers or thermostats), and even with smart home systems.

As an added feature, the SPD-SmartGlass in door of the oven has been designed with three different “zones” of the glass that are independently controllable between clear and dark – increasing the interactive options and benefits.

VariGuard’s SPD-SmartGlass provides optimal solutions to a longstanding dilemma that oven manufacturers have confronted: Oven manufacturers typically need to select a level of tint on the glass that is a compromise between being clear enough to see the oven’s contents while cooking to concealing the oven’s interior and contents to create a sleek design statement.

VariGuard SmartGlass is capable of switching not only from clear to black, but also any level of tint in between, offering opportunities for additional creative interactive features. For example, with the use of a proximity sensor, the tint of the glass can automatically adjust according to how close the cook is to the oven – for an interactive transition.

Electrolux sells more than 40 million products to customers in 150 countries per year. The SPD-Smart light-control film technology featured in Electrolux’s SenseOven 2.0 is also used in sunroofs on many models of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, in windows on over 40 models of aircraft, in yachts, and in art industry picture frames and display cases. It was also experienced by over 6 million people at Expo Milano as part of a 10 thousand square foot SPD-SmartGlass roof for the USA Pavilion. The design, engineering and fabrication of Electrolux’s SenseOven 2.0 concept oven was accomplished by close collaboration among VariGuard SmartGlass (a division of Research Frontiers and the supplier to Electrolux), Vision Systems (a licensee of Research Frontiers), and Electrolux.

Village Candle Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Limited-edition True Brilliance candle launched to commemorate milestone

WELLS, Maine (PRWEB) April 17, 2018

In the early 1990s, Paul Aldrich had just closed his decade-old business and was looking for a job in a struggling economy. Discouraged, he met with his ac-countant, who provided some life-changing advice. Upon learning that Aldrich had dabbled in candle making as a hobby many years before, the accountant suggested, "Do yourself a favor—go buy some wax."

Aldrich did just that, borrowing $20 from a friend to buy some simple supplies, and headed to his own kitchen to make scented votive candles that he gave to friends and family, who wanted more—and were willing to pay for them.

As more and more people bought the candles, Paul would use the money to buy more supplies, expanding the product line by procuring "any container that would hold wax" at flea markets and yard sales. He would take the candles to craft shows on the weekends and go back to his kitch-en to make more.

Soon after, Paul found a sales representative in Boston who placed a large order for the Boston Gifts Show, and the Aldrich home became the headquarters of Village Candle. As demand grew, the company moved out of their living room and into a 2,500 square-foot space in Yarmouth. Within two years, the factory encompassed 30,000 sf and Village Candles were being sold across the U.S., tripling in sales volume every year.

While Paul didn't have experience running a company of that size, he understood that building the right team was essential. Paul's wife, Sally, was part of that team. ”She was my rock," says Paul. Some of Village Candle's earliest employees, including the plant manager, several pourers, and the accounts payable person, have been with the company from the very beginning, staying with the company 20-plus years.

“When you do something you are passionate about, it doesn’t feel like work,” Paul says. “I truly love bringing beautiful light and fragrance into people’s homes, and am surrounded by a team that feels the same way.”

Over the years, Village Candle has become a much-loved source for fine fragranced candles. Paul understands the power of his candle fragrances and the emotions they evoke in Village Candle enthusiasts. Paul says true happiness comes from reading letters from customers who tell the stories about their experiences with Village Candle, such as a lilac candle sparking mem-ories of picking flowers with Grandma. Fragrances that have been part of Village Candle from the beginning—Spiced Pumpkin, Balsam Fir, Cinnamon Bun, Mulled Cider and Sugar Cookie—continue to delight customers even as the product line expands to include more sophisticated and trend-forward offerings. "I'm so proud of the positive impact our product has had on people's lives," says Paul.

Today, Village Candle celebrates 25 years of bringing the art and heart of fragrance to candle lovers across America and around the world. Still based in Maine and family owned, the compa-ny has embarked on a new adventure and a new world of fragrance that offers deeper, richer and more layered fragrance experiences that surprise and delight, and designs that are both timeless and modern.

As they look ahead to the next 25 years, Paul and his team have set their sights on growing Vil-lage Candle as a global brand, in the same way he grew the company regionally and then nation-ally. The company has nearly 40 distributors across Europe, the Middle East, Australia and South Africa. "In many of those countries, the impact of decorating our homes with fragrance is just beginning to emerge," Aldrich says.

To bring this vision to fruition, Village Candle has made several strategic hires in the last year. Jeanne Hulit, who has more than 20 years of experience in commercial banking and International trade, and who served in President Barack Obama’s cabinet as Acting Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, joined Village Candle as President in early 2017. The company more recently hired Clive Harper, who has been credited with creating the European candle market for Yankee Candle, as President of Village Candle’s international division. Dana Schwartz, a recognized leader in consumer direct, digital commerce and brand experience in the domestic and international premium brand space, was hired as Vice President of eCommerce and Brand Management.

To share the celebration of this milestone anniversary with loyal customers, partners and friends, Village Candle has created TRUE BRILLIANCE, a limited-edition 25th Anniversary Can-dle that embodies the company’s commitment to creating the richest and brightest candle expe-rience.

Infused with an effervescent blend of citrus, fruit and spice, TRUE BRILLIANCE is ideal for spe-cial occasions of every kind. Notes of sparkling orange, fresh apple and melon create a rush of emotion, while a pop of champagne hits the high notes. Deep shimmering notes of amber and woods mingle to create depth and dimension. Presented in custom glass with an embellished sil-vertone top, this special edition candle is perfect for gift-giving. TRUE BRILLIANCE is available in limited quantities at participating Village Candle retailers and online at http://www.villagecandle.com.
