The all-new Cigar Advisor is an online cigar magazine that brings a fresh, irreverent, and down-to-earth perspective on all things cigars to thousands of smokers. In addition to educational cigar content and behind-the-scenes cigar industry articles from some of the business’s top names, Cigar Advisor delivers an array of content about a variety of topics of interest to people who enjoy the cigar lifestyle. The magazine also features cigar reviews and ratings submitted by real smokers. CigarAdvisor Magazine has posted a new feature article on the state of the cigar industry in Eastern Europe, entitled “Communists Out, Cigars In." Written by Boutique Brands Cigars President, Rafael Nodal, the article focuses on how cigar sales in Prague and Moscow have flourished, especially with regard to cigars from countries other than Cuba.
In an effort to expand his distribution, Nodal has spent the past five years building relationships with cigar dealers in Eastern Europe.
"I have discovered one interesting fact that you won't find in any book on Economics or an article about Democracy in these countries," writes Nodal. "It's the growth of the premium cigar industry. Yes, during their Communist eras, these countries had Cuban cigars. You had an industry dominated by Communist Cuba and their respective Communist dictators. A Dominican, Honduran or Nicaraguan cigar was all but impossible to find."
Nodal asserts one reason for this premium cigar revolution is that East European cigar smokers have become better educated consumers by reading international magazines and following the cigar trends via social media sites on the web. As a result, this has created a demand for cigar brands that are popular in the United States; in other words, cigars made in The Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
For an expatriate Cuban like Nodal, who was born under a Communist regime, the ability to market his Dominican-made cigars in the former Communist Bloc makes for what he calls, "truly exciting times!"
