The Intrado was styled and engineered primarily at the Hyundai Motor European R&D center in Rüsselsheim, Germany, where it earned the codename, HED-9 for Hyundai Europe Design. Developed by a partnership of Hyundai Motor’s design and engineering teams, the Intrado is said to employ a super-lightweight structure teamed with a hydrogen fuel-cell drivetrain that’s both smaller and lighter than the unit used in the Hyundai Tucson ix35 Fuel Cell. The three-door appears to be born of that same funky, kinda-crossover, high-riding style that gave birth to cars such as the Nissan Juke.
So far Hyundai’s been light on the details, but claims the lightweight structure employs a mixture of advanced materials that are joined using a revolutionary technique that has the potential to change the ways cars are assembled in the future. The Intrado name is derived from the word “Intrados,” a term used to describe the underside of an arched airfoil or wing. For Hyundai’s purpose it represents lift, which enables flight, and reflects the car’s aircraft-like attributes of using advanced lightweight materials, purposeful style, and efficient powertrains.

Although Hyundai says it’s the first Hyundai concept car to be inspired by the brand’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 styling initiative, we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that the first production car to wear the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 tag, the 2015 Hyundai Genesis, debuted in Detroit earlier this year.
Either way, we’ll be interested to see how that black and orange interior comes off in person when we check it out on the stand in Geneva. Reported by Car and Driver 1 hour ago.
