Clinical Interventions in Aging has published the review “Frailty syndrome: an overview”.
As corresponding author Dr Leng says, “Since the seminal paper on frailty phenotype published by Dr. Linda Fried and colleagues at Johns Hopkins in 2001, research both in the biological basis and clinical application of the frailty syndrome has taken off at an unprecedented speed. Partnering with colleagues in China, I attempt to provide a brief overview, to the best of our knowledge, about the current status of this internationally emphasized topic in geriatric medicine and aging research.”
Dr Leng continues, “Significant works are currently being developed across the globe, such as in Europe, Asia, and Americas. Inevitably, we may have missed some important work. We hope that this will serve as a starting point for further information exchange and knowledge dissemination as well as an enhancer for further research development of this important and exciting field.”
As Dr Walker, Editor-in-Chief, explains, “This paper discusses an issue of growing importance that is the focus of attention in gerontology and anti-aging therapies. Loss of muscle or sarcopenia and frailty progressively erode quality of life, independent living and eventually increase the risk for development of intrinsic diseases of aging. The authors have reviewed recent literatures of frailty syndrome and summarized its clinical applications and potential preventative and therapeutic interventions. My overall expression is that the paper is well written and has the potential to attract significant attention from health care practitioners focused upon aging and its consequences.”
